Micflikier sparks win in Providence

PROVIDENCE — After being routed to start the weekend, the Albany River Rats hit the all-star break on a roll.
Left wing Jacob Micflikier scored three goals and goalie Justin Peters made 29 saves as Albany turned back Providence, 4-1 on Sunday in the American Hockey League.
Micflikier recorded his first AHL hat trick for Albany (23-16-2-2), which defeated Bridgeport, 4-3 in overtime on Saturday after yielding a franchise-tying record for goals allowed in a game in a 10-4 setback to league-leading Hershey on Friday.
The Rats, who have won four of their past five games, scored the first goal in each period to build a 3-0 lead, sparked by right wing Jerome Samson’s team-leading 15th goal in the opening frame. Micflikier scored Albany’s next three goals, including a power-play tally in the third period.
Rookie defenseman Jamie McBain chipped in with three assists.
Peters and defenseman Bryan Rodney will represent the Rats in the AHL All-Star Classic in Portland, Maine, which kicks off with the skills competition at 6 tonight and the AHL All-Star Game on Tuesday night at 8.
Albany returns to action when it hosts Bridgeport on Friday night at 7 and plays at Adirondack on Saturday night, also at 7.
